I have 12 years experience in trading stocks, commodity options and forex, with a major focus on the latter in recent times. I have set up this Real live account with a reasonable balance (~$2000) in order to allow meaningful following of trade sizes by all types of investors, and to provide the means for positive long-term consistent returns on investment. I exercise strict risk management and aim to keep drawdown to a minimum, unlike aggressive and risky traders who (with a lot of luck!) display astronomical returns for a few weeks/months and then disappear due to blowing out their account as well as their followers! I strictly close losing trades around the 100pip mark, and do not let them run into few hundred dollars of losses and sit on them for days/weeks until they return! While on the subject, I urge investors to be careful with apparently successful demo accounts, and with live accounts which display huge gains from having only deposited a few hundred dollars to start with! It is very difficult to judge such providers on their risk management, which is the most crucial factor in forex trading. Having said all that, my system aims for returns way over 100% per annum (e.g. this account has over 20% profit at the end of first month of trading).
My strategy entails trading the major currency pairs in a diversified manner, with a combination of short-term and medium-term positions. I employ a semi-automated approach to trading, using EA with technicals for market entry, and direct monitoring of open positions and risk exposure. I do not engage in hedging, and all trades are independent of each other and based on fundamental and technical market signals. I would recommend proportional allocation of funds (i.e. if you have similar balance to mine, copy the lot sizes as they are; if you have half the balance, half the lot sizes, etc). Although you may like to be more conservative or take slightly more risk. Finally, only follow this strategy if you are prepared for occasional smaller losses, as this is the reality of trading! The aim is not for 90-100% win rate, but a rather more realistic approach to overall medium-long term attractive positive returns. You are welcome to follow if you view this as an investment, not gambling!
***Further piece of advice in choosing a provider*** Compare the actual profit in dollars, as well as looking at the percentage gain, pips, and drawdown. You will find that many providers who display extremely low drawdown and high percentage gains are in fact trading in 0.01lot sizes. This gives you tiny returns in real terms. If you increase the proportion with which you follow them, you risk much higher drawdown and potentially blowing your account, since their trading style is not geared for higher trade sizes. In my account, I have confidence to trade frequently in minimum 0.1lot trade sizes, meaning you will gain higher profits in dollars, but not necessarily see astronomical percentage gains. The reality is that you will see a drawdown that can, once in a while, reach up to 30%. For serious long term trading (high frequency and good sized trades), this is natural and expected. I would class traders with drawdown above 30% as risky.
